All I Want For Christmas!

Is it too early? Is it NEVER too early?? Heck, well Christmas really isn’t that far away now, and you do need to get your list out there quickly, you know, so that your other half doesn’t forget anything (even if some of it is only theoretical!)So, no, it’s not too early! In the iconic words of the inimitable warbler, Mariah, all I want for Christmas is… Jeffrey Dean Morgan to arrive on my doorstep (naked or semi clad is a total bonus,) to tell me that we are meant to be together. And this would totally be allowed, because Jeffrey Dean Morgan is on my List. You know, the Friends style List that caused huge embarrassment for Ross, but ultimately, should anyone from ‘The List,’ proposition either of them, they get the go ahead from the other person to go for it. Jeffrey is top of mine, and Natalie Portman is top of my husband’s. If you don’t know who Jeffrey Dean Morgan is, he is currently playing Negan in The Walking Dead, (which I might have mentioned a few times possibly, that I’m a fan of…!) But I’ve also had a decade long stalkery crush on him since his days of Denny in Grey’s Anatomy. So there you have it-that is top of my Christmas list this year!

Total and utter fantasy aside, I have other things on my wish list, some possibly still bordering on fantastical, others hopefully more attainable! Here’s All I Want For Christmas, for this year!

1 Hoping I haven’t ruined Christmas for my youngest… Soooo, I had an agreement with him, that Santa was going to come and take his dummies away this Christmas, and give them to the new babies who needed them more than him. He unfortunately thought this meant he’d get new ones in their place… When I explained this wasn’t the case, he barricaded himself and his dummies in the bathroom, shouting about ‘Santa can’t get me in here,’ and has started a self titled campaign called ‘Say NO to Santa.’ This currently involves waking at 4am, and having to come into my bed, in order to stop the big, red villainous thief from taking his dummies. I have also had to carefully pen a letter stating that he has categorically changed his mind, and if the new babies need dummies, Santa will just have to get them from the dummy shop (aka Boots.) Crap. Please let him be over this by Christmas…!

asanta

(Possibly the current situation for the littlest in our house…)

2 I hope people will treat my Christmas birthday oldest child’s birthday, and Christmas day, separately… I will always harbour some level of guilt that poor planning has left the oldest with a birthday very close to Christmas. I work hard every year to make sure the two are treated separately. This will be on my list every year…

3 I’d like a cleaner. Actually, there’s a fine line developing between wanting a cleaner, and being forced to move out because the house needs fumigating. It’s the source of much frustration and agitation from me, but always manages to fall to the bottom of my list of priorities…

4 Having fallen in love with a pair of Irregular Choice shoes I bought earlier in the year, I now have my eye on another pair…!

5 I’d like for my dad to be able to work less, and start focussing on the things he loves doing. He chooses to still work lots, because he loves his job, but I think it’s definitely time to start wrapping it up dad, and doing some fun stuff-you aren’t getting any younger!

6 I’d really like for toddlerdom, and the threenage year, to be MUCH LESS HARD! Because actually, I want to enjoy my children, but they make it very difficult with their ninja assassin, planking tantrum, food renouncing, attitude to life! Can it just be a bit easier? Please…?!

7 I really hope that this year, my house that I love for all its character, will see fit to stop letting the roof leak… Every time we get a new leak fixed, there it goes, pouring in from somewhere else! If it could just stop, that’d be grand!

8 I think most of all, I’d like to feel a bit less crap about my parenting skills, and for my Feeling of Failure scale to be a bit more manageable. I hope my children continue to thrive, and be happy, and make me trust that actually, I am doing a good job with them. I hope that they, have the best Christmas ever.

The team at Vorwerk  asked me to take part in their #AllIWantForChristmas campaign, designed to uncover what is on the ultimate Christmas wishlists of some of the UK’s parenting and lifestyle bloggers in the run up to this year’s festivities-this post was sponsored by them.

I love your description of your kids ‘ninja assassin, planking tantrum, food renouncing, attitude to life!’. It does make it tough!! I really think we all want to feel better parents because we love our kids so much and also because the ideal parent bar (although i have not met one yet) is so high. i have two posts on guilt in parenting which give some alternative perspectives you might find useful. http://www.theguiltfreeguide.co.uk/why-so-much-guilt-guilt-and-motherhood-part-1/ and http://www.theguiltfreeguide.co.uk/dealing-with-guilt-guilt-and-motherhood-part-2/ . I hope you get all you want for Christmas!! #mg

Thank you, I will check them out!! The bar is very high isn’t it?! I think after sorting my parenting skills, Jeffrey Dean Morgan really would make my Christmas…! Thanks for commenting x

Ooh Jamie Dornan is on my list! Plus a ridiculously overpriced pair of silver trainers and a designer Filofax – neither of which we can really afford but I’ll keep hinting anyway! Love irregular choice – they were my wedding shoes 🙂

Aaah, their wedding range are fab!! Jamie Dornan I can also get on board with!! Keep hinting, I’m sure Mr MMT can get you one of those things!! X

  3. November 28, 2016 / 9:01 am

Number 3 – a cleaner. Oh yes please Santa! I’d literally love that, shame my house is never tidy enough for a cleaner to actually clean anything, ha!

    • This Mum's Life
      November 28, 2016 / 9:23 am

I think they’d have the same problem here, they’d more than likely walk out in disgust…!

  4. November 28, 2016 / 9:26 am

oooooo YES to a cleaner, but I need one ongoing and that is not likely. Otherwise I could never afford gorgeous shoes!! And…I have never seen that man before in my life… eeekkkk #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      November 28, 2016 / 9:36 am

THEN WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN???! Watch Greys Anatomy season 2, for an introduction!! I need an ongoing cleaner too, which is also unlikely… but just to see my house clean for a day, would bring me happiness!!

  5. November 28, 2016 / 9:32 am

Love it. My husband and I have decided to get each other a new quilt for our bed and a better Sky box. Sad, but true. If they could be delivered by Damian Lewis that would make my day. My two year old is still loving his dummies and his favourite activity is doing a striptease behind the sofa ending with a nappy being flung across the room. So it would be nice to sort that out too. Loving the shoes by the way! x

    • This Mum's Life
      November 28, 2016 / 9:39 am

But when you’re a parent, a better sky box is actually the equivalent of a diamond ring…! Your 2 year old sounds hysterical, although hopefully the nappies aren’t filled with poop, because that’d just be terrible..!!

  6. November 28, 2016 / 9:37 am

Yes to all of this! (Although I’m pretty sure if you think you’re not doing a good enough job you probably are!)

My wish for christmas is at least a week of sleeping all night and getting up at a reasonable time – any time after 6am would count as reasonable at this point!

    #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      November 28, 2016 / 9:40 am

What does it come to when after 6am has become reasonable?! I really hope you get some unbroken sleep-every mum deserves that, especially at Christmas!! X

  7. November 28, 2016 / 9:37 am

I think that’s a perfectly reasonable list and I hope you get everything you wish for lovely – especially Jeffrey of course! Hope the say no to santa campaign eases off too – oh my word a three year olds mind – wish I had some advice for that one but short of saying wine I think you’re going to just have to see where it goes – will make for a fab post!! Enjoy lovely xx #BigPinkLink

      November 28, 2016 / 9:42 am

Yes, there’s already a post formulating…!! I’ll take the wine-it’s the only answer I could think of too!! And Jeffrey for Christmas… that’d be life made!!

  8. November 28, 2016 / 9:54 am

I hope you get everything you wished for, I would love a cleaner, one that followed children around and picked up all the things they drop/leave behind!! #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      November 28, 2016 / 10:00 am

      That would be massively awesome!!!!

  9. November 28, 2016 / 10:01 am

A cleaner would be my actual dream – I am embarrassingly messy and detest housework! Love the Say No to Santa campaign, that’s hilarious! I would love a new handbag – the straps on mine broke a few months back (probably due to the ridiculous amount of stuff that I cram into it!) and I’m currently using my camera bag as a handbag – not ideal! I hope Santa brings you all of these and more! #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      November 28, 2016 / 10:59 am

Thank you!! A new handbag is a must for you!! And if husbands moan, they totally don’t understand the amount of stuff we have to carry around with us!! X

  10. November 28, 2016 / 10:09 am

This is the best Christmas list ever! I would like to feel less crap about parenting too. Get a cleaner they are amazing! I had to get one due to medical advice when I was pregnant…. That was 2 years ago… oopps! 😉

I do realllllly want one!! My husband is happy to complain about the mess-less inclined to do anything about it…!

  11. November 28, 2016 / 10:20 am

What a great list, I hope you get at least some of them! x #bigpinklink

      November 28, 2016 / 11:01 am

Everyone needs Jeffrey Dean Morgan in their lives!!!

  13. November 28, 2016 / 11:05 am

Aw what a lovely list. Bless your little one with their dummies – sounds like my little girl. Been trying to wean her off them – it’s going badly. My sister’s baby is due two days after Christmas so I can empathise – I am sure that your little one loves double the celebrations. Thought your wish about your dad was lovely – made me a bit emosh. I really hope you get your final wish and realise how blooming awesome you are and how well you are doing at the hardest job in the world. That feeling of failure is omnipresent and we need to give it the due courtesy it deserves and tell it to eff off, we are wonderful mothers and women. P.S. Didn’t know who that fella was but can see why you’re smitten 😉 x #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      November 28, 2016 / 11:16 am

Why are dummies so amazing, yet so… terrible?!! I really do wish my dad would cut down on work, he has so many other interests well overdue his attention now!! Feelings of failure are always ever present aren’t they? I’m working at not letting them completely destroy me…! Xx

  14. November 28, 2016 / 11:13 am

I want a CLEANER too!! Oh, a chef, a Cabana boy, a butler….or I’ll settle for an all in one, with the initials IS. I hope you do get what’s on your list this year.

    • This Mum's Life
      November 28, 2016 / 11:17 am

You definitely deserve that!! ESPECIALLY if his initials are I.S…!!!!! Xx

  15. November 28, 2016 / 12:02 pm

Love the shoes and I’m in the same place as you on a cleaner. Well not quite true, my house is always needing cleaning because it is always bottom of my to do list. I have cleaners on hand through Coombe Mill but my house needs so much tidying with so many of us before anyone can clean that it just never happens. All the focus is on the business and cleaning the properties well. #BigPinkLink

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:51 am

It must be hard with so many children, and a large business!! I can imagine that your house is always chaos!!

  16. November 28, 2016 / 1:22 pm

Sorry, I hadn’t heard of your crush, but now I have, I’m afraid we’ll have to share him. A cleaner is on my wish list too 🙂 Alison x #BigPinkLink

Hehe!! Everyone needs JDM in their lives!!

  17. November 28, 2016 / 1:51 pm

YES to Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I too have been harbouring a major crush on his gorgeous self since his Denny days. Ooh and his supernatural era (although I have a big thing for Jensen Ackles too so that was a bit weird as he played his dad. Awkward.) I actually love him even more as Negen. I fear that there is no hope for me! :-/ Love your list and I hope you get every teeny thing that you’ve wished for! Xx

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:50 am

Yes!! A fellow Jeffrey fan!! We must also have the same taste in men, as I would happily have a Jeffrey/Jensen sandwich…!! I find him unbelievably hot as Negan-I wasn’t going to watch this season of TWD, as I thought it might put me off him, but I don’t know what it says about me, but he is ridiculously hot!!

  18. November 28, 2016 / 2:56 pm

Oooo yes I totally get where you are coming from with no. 6. Good luck with the dummies and please be less harsh on yourself re parenting 😊 Happy Christmas! #bigpinklink

      December 1, 2016 / 7:46 am

Thank you, I’m working on it!

  19. November 28, 2016 / 3:39 pm

I love irregular choice shoes! I’m sure you havent ruined Santa for him though – he’ll get over it eventually I’m sure! #bigpinklink

      December 1, 2016 / 7:45 am

      Fingers crossed…!

  20. November 28, 2016 / 4:50 pm

It would feel like all of my Christmas’s had come at once if I was to get cleaner!! I keep trying to convince my husband that we need one but he’s not taking the bait. Maybe I’ll just stop cleaning and let him see how much we really do need one!! #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:45 am

Does he use the same excuse as my husband-that you’re home all day, so you must be able to get it all done?! Pah!!

  21. November 28, 2016 / 5:50 pm

Say no to Santa!!! I was laughing so hard, poor little guy! #bigpinklink

      Tragic isn’t it…!

  22. November 28, 2016 / 7:56 pm

This is seriously ringing true for me! I somehow managed to screw up timing and ended up with one kid in November and one in January lol. i do feel for them! We also just had my Husband and Father-in-law up on the roof fixing a leak for the fifth time! We’re really, really hoping this is the last one! xx #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:43 am

Aaaah, flipping roofs!!!! This better be our last, or I think I’ll be falling out of love with my house…!

  23. November 28, 2016 / 8:29 pm

Definitely yes to the cleaner, and the shoes!!

    #bigpinklink

  24. November 28, 2016 / 8:40 pm

Awww, I think this is a very fair wish list! Am in agreement with you on Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the irregular choice shoes and a cleaner! I’d wear my irregular choice shoes out on a romantic date with Jeffrey whilst my cleaner tended to the house. See, I have it all planned out! haha! In all seriousness though, all I want is a stress free Christmas full of happiness and love. The latter will happen but I think stress free is pushing my luck! #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:41 am

Yes, stress free does seem like the impossible dream doesn’t it?! I love the idea of a date with Jeffrey in irregular choice shoes!!

  25. November 28, 2016 / 9:06 pm

I absolutely love the ingenuity of your Father Christmas/dummy amnesty, and also the hilarious way it has backfired. I hope he is over it soon. I want a cleaner too. #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:40 am

One of the worst backfires in history I reckon…!

  26. November 28, 2016 / 10:27 pm

I’m a Christmas baby too … 24th! It’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it. I love the genius of the dummies… that’s one clever kid. #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:38 am

Eeek!! The 24th is worse than my little one!! I hope you’re not overlooked this year…!!

  27. November 29, 2016 / 8:02 am

#4 and #8. I love shoes and have NONE….haha. my tennis shoes are literally worn through on the bottoms and tops sooooo…..some on santa help me out! But having a moment where i just feel happy about how i am parenting, as if i am doing great and my children will not need therapy, would mean the world to me….and my sanily. #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:37 am

I think we can definitely agree on that!! X

  28. November 29, 2016 / 9:48 am

Well I think this is a perfectly reasonable list. Oh the dummy thing – bless him, Santa’s got some work to do before Dec 25th! #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:36 am

He definitely has…! It’s been included in his letter from santa though, that they won’t be taken away this year-I think that’s helped!! X

  29. November 29, 2016 / 11:29 am

Well the microwave snuffed it last week and the coffee machine is showing signs of feeling ‘poorly’ (an essential in our house!) but if he thinks that they will make good Christmas presents for me………….! I definitely need a list! #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:33 am

They are essential, and most definitely need replacing!!

  30. November 29, 2016 / 11:33 am

That little dummy story is adorable! Well. I’m sure it’s tricky to manage, but adorable nonetheless! Nice list, too. It’s nice to see a list that doesn’t consist solely of ‘stuff’ to buy! Get a cleaner, tho, you won’t regret it! #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:32 am

I think I need to…! I didn’t want it to be a material list, because that’s not what Christmas is about really!!

  31. November 29, 2016 / 12:53 pm

Wow, that guy is pretty hot! I’ll forgive him for the horrible Negan stuff! I too, would love a cleaner…or a dust fairy or anything that means that I don’t have to spend valuable time doing things I hate! #BigPinkLink

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:31 am

I know!! When time is precious, cleaning is just such a terrible waste!!

  32. November 29, 2016 / 5:32 pm

I bet you are doing a brilliant job! I would love some Irregular Choice shoes and a cleaner. Hope you little boy forgets about his santa campaign soon x

      December 1, 2016 / 7:30 am

The shoes and the cleaner are very popular!!

  33. November 30, 2016 / 12:27 am

Ohhh a cleaner…now if santa can pull that off, I’m in full throttle honey! #bigpinklink <3

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:30 am

A cleaner is proving a popular choice!!

  34. November 30, 2016 / 9:34 am

Oh dear, that Santa trick kind of backfired, but I’m sure you’ll find a way to ditch those dummies. We just went cold turkey for my 2yo. After a couple of days normality resumed. On my wishlist this year would be one of those guards you put over a frying pan to stop the fat spitting out. How exciting am I?! On a more interesting note, I’d like a new laptop, but might end up buying myself one in the sales!
I’m sure your kids will have a fabulous Christmas!

    #bigpinklink

    • This Mum's Life
      December 1, 2016 / 7:29 am

I think cold turkey is going to be the only way-spectacular backfire wasn’t it…?!

  35. November 30, 2016 / 1:40 pm

My other half was like”you’ll never guess who the guy who played Negan was in before TWD”
I looked him like an idiot – then went on a massive explanation of who Denny is and his relationship with Izzy etc
    Love him!

  36. December 1, 2016 / 12:00 pm

Poor Jamie’s wife – what must it be like to be married to the most wanted man in the UK? The dummy scenario sounds a bit tense, hope the 4am wake up calls stop soon ….#bigpinklink

  37. December 1, 2016 / 8:38 pm

I want the shoes, they are gorgeous, I’m hopping over to the website now to drool! #bigpinklink

  38. December 1, 2016 / 9:05 pm

Hahah I always love your posts! Yes can life please get a little bit easier!! My daughter’s birthday is on New Year’s Day so bad planning here too – although a week is better than just a few days, I do try to make sure we celebrate them both, but it being on NYD is hard as no one is around! #bigpinklink … PS I’ve never heard of him, but yep, he’s hot!

  39. December 4, 2016 / 5:01 pm

I want all those shoes and that chap in a Santa suit, actually, no santa suit please 😉
I hope the dummy chaos is abating now!xx #bigpinklink

He’s finally understood that Santa isn’t taking them away… phew!!!! But we will be in cold turkey hell sometime in January…!!! X

  40. December 5, 2016 / 10:10 am

Some great ideas on there ha ha! Oh no about the dummies, I hope that Santa does it very gently. Who doesn’t need a cleaner? Although the last time I had them (when I was working full time in a good job)I spent more time cleaning up before they came to feel the benefit!

    #bigpinklink

  41. December 5, 2016 / 11:20 am

I too would also love a cleaner.. and someone to feed me and force me to exercise so I don’t keep eating rubbish and just sitting cabbage like on the sofa! #BigPinkLink

  42. December 5, 2016 / 11:38 am

Love the shoes! And I’d love a cleaner, too (no excuse as I’m a SAHM) but don’t think I could handle the awkwardness/social interaction side even if we could afford one.

Santa might have to send a letter back about the dummies if you don’t want terror over the idea of him sneaking into your house on Christmas Eve! The ‘say NO to Santa’ campaign is an awesome story for years to come, though.

My brother’s fiance has a birthday very close to Christmas so I always try to make a fuss of her birthday and get her separate presents.

#bigpinklink (rather late comment this week – sorry)

  43. December 5, 2016 / 1:40 pm

I’d simply like a day off. That would be lovely… #bigpinklink
